So I wasn't in the mood to make pictures tonight.
I also didn't want to skip another day.
So I grabbed my camera, put it on auto, with a flash even, and took this image of my ever-grounded daughter.
That's what happens when you argue and argue and argue with your mom!

Swimmin
It was inevitable. I forgot to take a picture yesterday. I hope that I made up for it today, though.
This morning was the first Digital Photography Meetup ever. We all met at the Rio Grand Nature Center and took bunches of pictures. I learned a lot about my camera (thanks Paul!) and am looking forward to many meetups to come.

The escargot almost killed us
Casey and I had dinner at a little French restaurant tonight ... I took this picture before the escargot turned on us.

Ta Da!
The Invention Convention project was completed ON TIME!
Yes, I know the flash ruined this picture. But at least I took one.

The Heartbeat Petbed
Casey's project for the Invention Convention was a Heartbeat Petbed. She has to put together a story board, just like a science project, so of course she enlisted mom for the photography.
Days like this discourage me. This pic is not much better, I don't think, than it would have been without classes and expensive equipment.
But whaddyagonnado.
Practice more I guess!

Moon over Mountains
I noticed an amazing moon when I picked Casey up tonight. My little p&s certainly doesn't do it justice, nor does the telephone wires going right through it ... lesson in paying attention to the background more :)

Extreme Makeover
Today we were spectators for the Extreme Makeover Home Edition project in SE Albuquerque.
We met up with Alexa, Julie, boyfriend & fam and hopped on the shuttle to check out the action. What you see here was pretty much it. No Design Team, no Ty Pennington, no tv camera even. It was just a bunch of builders walking around and doing their thing. But at least I got a little camera practice in.
Tuesday is the big reveal so we may head back down and try to get an autograph from the celebs (and more pics!)

Saturday Night Homework
The Invention Convention is next week. This assignment was made, oh, three months ago, and we finally got started on it tonight.
I took the opportunity to play with the new Canon a bit - this was taken with the flash bouncing off the ceiling. I also played with custom white balance for the first time.
So even though I may only be spending a few minutes a day doing this, I feel like I'm learning something!

Cricket Monster
Friday's pic of the day: Ms. Cricket, my mother's very high maintenance Shi Tsu. We babysat so she could help a friend recuperate from surgery. I wasn't much in the mood for photography, but she had a great expression on her face so I figured I would capture it for my little 365 project here

Temples and Tombs
I went with Casey's class to the Albuquerque Art Museum this afternoon to see the featured Temples and Tombs exhibit. I was excited to photograph real Egyptian art, tombs, death scrolls, etc.
While we were waiting for our tour guide, I got out my camera and start taking random shots in the lobby, at which time I was promptly told that photography was not allowed.
So this is it. Awe inspiring isn't it?

I pledge allegiance, to the flag
I love attempting to make pictures of flags.
This one caught my attention this morning when I dropped Casey off at school. It is at half-mast and was backlit against a beautiful sky. Since I never leave the house without my little point and shoot, I opened the sunroof and started snapping pictures.

Focus!
For Christmas, Uncle Kent & his wife sent us Omaha steaks. We cooked a couple of them up tonight and boy were they yummy! Casey's was comically rare so I tried my hardest to snap a photo of it. Alas, I couldn't get the auto-focus to pay attention to the steak and gave up. Will try again next time.

The Great Pumpkin
Subject options are limited at 3:30 in the afternoon. Still, I was playing with lenses and filters and wanted to shoot something.
This is what I came up with after a little creative cropping.
I let Elements auto fix it from raw and I like how the colors came out. Might have had something to do with the polarizing filter, too. I don't know.
I'm starting to see a trend with these diagonal lines, though.

Work Work Work
So today I slept until noon ... that's right, noon! Casey spent the night at Grammy's and I don't think I moved for over 12 hours.
Once I finally did get up, though, I spent my entire Sunday working. I thought this would be the perfect picture to describe my day.
I even broke out the tripod so I wouldn't have to use a flash. Aren't you proud?!

Weekends Rule
Poor Casey - not even out of bed and mom's snapping pictures with the new camera.
I've actually posted 12 days in a row! I'm so proud of myself!

Doin the happy camera dance
I got a new camera ... I got a new camera
FINALLY
My Canon 40D showed up today! Casey is going to be in mommy's - taking - my - picture - again - hell for the next I don't know how long.
And yes, I know this is terribly underexposed. Ironic, isn't it :)

My name is Shannon, and I am a shopoholic
I decided to get all of the Christmas boxes out of my garage so I can break them down and put them out for recycling. What a mess this turned out to be!

Keeping Christmas Alive
I didn't have much time to focus on photography today (get it ... focus...)
Anyway, so I went into the backyard and looked for anything slightly interesting. That anything was the tacky Christmas Palm tree on my patio. So I set my little Canon SD950IS for macro and snapped one of the bulbs. It's not bad - you can even see a little dust on it!
Certainly it's not frameworthy, but I did use my macro setting, which I've never done before :)

Yes, this is what you think it is
Hey, it's only January 8. I didn't even put the tree UP until the 22nd!
In my defense, the lights have been off since Jan 2. I just haven't quite gotten around to taking it down yet. My goal is to at least get the ornaments packed away tomorrow, so this was my last chance at getting a Christmas picture.
I remember asking one of my photography instructors why I should bother with the manual setting when the camera will expose it properly on its own. Tonight I think I finally understand why he looked at me like I was crazy.
This picture, when "properly exposed" was basically a black rectangle with itty bitty white lights here and there. This over-exposed shot is much more pleasant, at least to me.
Maybe by this time next year I'll even photoshop out the distracting elements! :)

Das foot
I decided to dust off my 50mm prime lens today. Casey was thrilled to be the model for my picture a day project (for a change), so I present to you, her foot!

Rain Rain Go Away
It's a rare rainy day in Albuquerque so I thought it'd be a good time to get out and play with my SLR. I explored this lonesome skateboard quite a bit, and this was the winning photo.
Although, looking at it now ... does it seem underexposed?
Hmmmm

An hour of my life
I had to run an errand which led me to the airport today. This airplane hangs in the main lobby and I thought it would be a challenging picture to make because of the backlighting. Yep, I was right. With my little point and shoot I fiddled with as many settings as I could, but alas, the best photo was the one taken on the automatic setting.

Learnin'
I officially joined the ABQ Photography Club tonight. This was the speaker, oh I've already forgotten his name. He discussed photography contests and showed many of his pictures from all around the world. They meet every two weeks, so hopefully I'll be able to pick up a thing or twenty.
He also pointed out the importance of titles, so I guess I can't keep naming my photos January 1, January 2 ... dagonit!

Day two of the new year and we're writing thank you notes (still in our jammies).
This is not the best exposed picture, but not bad for my little point and shoot. Once I install photoshop on my new laptop I'll try and edit things up a little nicer :)

Day 1 of my newest picture a day project. After the slumber party the night before, none of us were very productive. I didn't get out of my jammies all day! This picture of Abner napping pretty much sums up our lazy first day of 2008.
